According to Okeke in his narration, he said that he and his gang members killed his Stepmother who was an accountant of the National Population Commission, Awka. In his narration, he said he asked her for N1 million, she refused to give him, she later agreed to give him, he stated that he wanted to use the money to pay his school fees.
His statement read, I arranged with my gang to extract the money from her so they came in the night, they tied both her legs and hands but before we knew what was happening, she stopped breathing only for us to find out that she was dead. One of the accomplices whose name is Peter Jideofor claimed that Okeke had called him to help him in extracting N1 million from the stepmother so that he can pay his school fees. He said they didn’t agree at first but Okeke persuaded them so they came to the house, they tied the stepmother’s hands and legs, her mouth because she wanted to shout. After he tied her mouth, she stopped breathing, we had to quickly leave considering the fact that we didn’t come to kill her.
We asked Okeke to ensure that he checks her constantly so that she doesn’t die. Eventually, he called us in the morning and told us his stepmother was dead, many of us ran away but I stayed inside my room until I was arrested. Okeke never wanted her to die. He noted that Okeke regretted the act adding that they never withdrew any money. CP Echeng Echeng advised the citizens to be law abiding and he condemned the act.
