As the general election approaches fast, the Anambra Central Senatorial seat would appear to be the most keenly contested of the elections that would hold in the State on the 25th of February 2023.

The battle for the soul of Anambra Central is going to be fierce with major contenders ready to slug it out at the polls. There is no doubt that the incumbent senator representing the zone is the person to beat. As the incumbent, Senator Uche Ekwunife is not just a front runner, but also one of the most experienced politicians in Anambra with deep war chest and a very strong political structure.
As much as Ekwunife is the ‘big masquerade’ in Anambra central politics, nobody can wish away the wizardry and prowess of Senator Victor Umeh, a political gladiator, former national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance and presently the Senatorial candidate of the Labour party. He is not a pushover and may equally benefit from labour party rave and Peter Obi’s goodwill. Hon Dozie Nwankwo of APGA equally is another political titan in the zone. Dozie is a three-time member of the house of representative and now seeking to advance his political career in the Senate.
The fourth strong contender and probably the dark horse in the race is Dr Chinedu Umeadi, a Canadian based medical doctor who though is a green horn may pull surprises because of his giant strides in community development and political sophistry with respect to grassroots mobilization. His growing influence could make him topple the apple cart.
There is no love lost between Ekwunife, Umeh and Dozie Nwankwo, as these old horses are strong political rivals with history of bad blood amongst them. Ekwunife and Dozie had pitted against each other at the beginning of their political careers while Umeh on his part is a sworn political enemy of Ekwunife since she started running for the senate.
From very deep analysis and political calculation, it appears these three political gladiators will be in the ring slugging it out with sweats and blood flying all over;they are certainly going to cancel each other out, leaving a dark horse to emerge.
There are strong indications that Dr Chinedu Umeadi could come top in this contest because Ndi Anambra central are becoming tired of the fight of these old politicians and may want a breath of fresh air. Umeadi as a smart politician, has positioned well to leverage on this opportunity.
More so , his pedigree is extremely outstanding and very few are aware that Agunaechemba as he is popularly known in his community, Abagana, has been laying a very strong political ground for a while now. He has through his foundation impacted his community, his senatorial zone and even beyond. For years, his foundation has awarded several scholarships to students, empowered rural women in trading, and has contributed immensely in human capital development.
The 2023 election is a different election which some analysts have predicted would be a polling booth revolution. The present political consciousness is like never seen before, with young people leading the charge. If all present factors remain prevalent within the Anambra central zone, Dr Chinedu Umeadi might against all odds emerge as the new Senator representing Anambra Central in the red chambers.
