Most Rev’d Maxwell Anikwenwa

Former Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese and Archbishop, Province of the Niger, Most Rev’d Maxwell Anikwenwa has passed on . He died on the early hours of today after a brief illness. The former Dean Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) died at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Blessing and Children.

Anikwenwa was born on the 22nd November ,1940. He attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Onitsha, St Mark’s Teachers College Nibo-Nise,Trinity Theological College Umuahia, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra-Leone, Graduate School of Ecumenical Studies, Geneva,Ripon College, Cuddeson, Oxford Theological and Others.

He was Ordained a priest in 1968 and preferred a Canon of All Saints Cathedral Onitsha 1976 .He was elected Bishop of Awka 1987 and Archbishop of Province 2 in 2000. He became Dean, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) that same year. Anikwenwa was elected Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Anambra State in 2001. Archbishop Anikwenwa remains an Icon of hope and integrity. He believes in fairness and transparency.
