As of now, there is no information or official statement from President Ahmed Bola Tinubu regarding a new date for conduct of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.

The census is usually conducted every ten years, with the last one being held in 2006 and should have been conducted in 2016 but was postponed indefinitely.

The importance of conducting a population and housing census in Nigeria cannot be overstated. It is an important tool for policymakers and government agencies to plan and implement policies and programs that will address the needs of the citizens. It provides accurate data on the number of people living in each area, their age distribution, sex, and other important demographic information that can inform decisions on the allocation of resources, infrastructure development and provision of social services.

President Tinubu’s administration has indicated that the census will be conducted in 2023, and there has been no indication of a change in these plans.

It is hoped that with the budgetary allocation in place for the exercise, adequate preparations be made and a new date should be announced to ensure that Census 2023 is conducted successfully and efficiently as planned.
