The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has through its publicity Secretary Okelo Madukife welcomed the disclosure of the release of N2 billion from the earmarked N5 billion subsidy relief fund by the Federal Government. The party commends Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for finally revealing this information.
The party emphasized the importance of transparency and demands that the appropriation proposals to the Anambra State House of Assembly and the distribution plan of relief items be urgently disclosed to the public.
The APC questioned whether the outstanding N3 billion will be covered by the next tranche and whether it is a loan or grant-in-aid.
“The people of Anambra deserve to know what their children and future generations will be committed to.
“The APC calls for a proper agreement between the Anambra State and Federal Government on this transaction, with the involvement of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice to ensure transparency and accountability”. The party scribe noted.
Similarly, the party raised concerns about the non-cash items, including their quantity, quality, and any conditions attached to them.
“The handling of this handover from the Federal Government to the State Governments is also questioned by the APC. The party believes that such a process should have been conducted in full public view, rather than forcing the people to extract information through unofficial means. The APC implores Governor Soludo and his government to prioritize transparency for the benefit of the common good. The party also calls on the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somto Udeze, to fulfill his oversight functions and ensure that no Anambra State funds are spent without appropriation.
“Lastly, the APC urges Governor Soludo to announce all travels and temporary handovers both within and outside Anambra State. This will provide clarity to the citizens as to who is in charge and what actions are being taken in his absence.
“The APC wishes Governor Soludo and the entire Anambra State citizenry a happy September 2023 and a peaceful end to the year”, the party scribe concluded.
