The Orumba South Welfare Association, OSWA, Suleja/Abuja has seized the unique occasion of the 2023 Orumba South LGA Day/New Yam Festival to honor one of the illustrious sons of Orumba South, Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu (Mayor of Atlanta), who is the Chairman, Orumba South LGA, Anambra State. Hon. Prince Uchendu was bestowed with the PRESTIGIOUS MERIT AWARD in recognition of his outstanding performance, particularly in improving security and infrastructure development in Orumba South LGA.

The event which was held on Sunday, 10th September, 2023 at the Obilly Garden, G.R.A, Suleja/Abuja brought together indigenes of Orumba South residing in Suleja and Abuja. The event attracted guests from within the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and its environs as well as across the country.

For organizers of the event, this year’s new yam festival was not only special but remarkable as they were delighted to have in attendance the Honourable Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Prince Uchendu, who came all the way from Anambra State to grace the occasion as the special guest of honor.

HRH Igwe Dr. Johnmark ANYAOHA, the traditional ruler of Ogbunka Kingdom performed the traditional breaking of kola nut to kick-start the 2023 Orumba South LGA Day/New Yam Festival (Iri-ji) on behalf of Orumba North and South Council of Traditional Rulers.

Thereafter, The Honourable Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu (Mayor of Atlanta) was called upon to unveil the Award Plaque before the formal presentation to Award recipients.

In his remarks, immediately after receiving the Merit Award, Hon. Prince Uchendu thanked the gathering and appreciated everyone especially the organizers of the event, Orumba South Welfare Association, including the Orumba South women for coming out in their numbers to accord him a rousing welcome in a grand style.

The Honourable Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu was full of praises for the honor done him and other distinguished personalities by the Orumba South Welfare Association. He also acknowledged the organizers for the recognition and for finding him and others worthy of the merit awards. The Hon. Prince Uchendu also congratulated the people for coming together as a unique group of people to celebrate their Cultural heritage in Suleja/Abuja as he doll out cash donation of hundred thousand Naira to support the Association.

He also seized the unique opportunity to inform the gathering about the open door policy of his administration, noting that as a Chief Servant of Orumba South LGA, he will always make himself available to the people of Orumba South. He also informed them of his various achievements in office so far, among which is the completion and installation of CCTV Camera in Nkwo Umunze roundabout as part of efforts to boost security in the area. He also assured that the local government council under his leadership plans to organize a massive ‘Home Coming’ for the people of Orumba South during the 2023 Christmas season.

The Honourable Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Anambra State, Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu (Mayor of Atlanta) also acknowledged the support and contributions of the Traditional Ruler of Ogbunka Kingdom, HRH Igwe Sir Dr. Johnmark Anyaoha, KSM, JP for supporting the council’s security initiative with a donation of a Hilux vehicle to support security work in the local government area. Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu also took time to commend Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for its laudable developmental strides in Orumba South LGA in particular, and by extension the entire Anambra State. He therefore urged his people to come home and invest in Orumba South in line with Governor Soludo’s “think home philosophy” (Aku Ruo Uno) while making reference to the recently concluded Anambra Investment summit organized by the Anambra State Government. He charged Ndi Orumba South Welfare Association to come home and invest in Orumba.

Also honored at the 2023 Orumba South Day/New Yam Festival was the Traditional Ruler of Ogbunka Kingdom, HRH Igwe Sir Dr. Johnmark Anyaoha, KSM, JP. He was bestowed with MERIT AWARD AS THE MOST SUPPORTIVE TRADITIONAL RULER.

While receiving the Award, the traditional ruler expressed his joy and deep appreciation to the Orumba South Welfare Association, OSWA, for the honor done him and other prominent sons of the area. He then announced a cash donation of one hundred thousand naira to the Association.

One of the major highlights of the event was the symbolic cutting of the New Yam and eating of the New Yam by the Royal father of the day, HRM Igwe Sir Dr. Johnmark Anyaoha, KSM, JP (Nka Ogbunka). He was joined by the Executive Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Anambra State, Hon. Prince Neville Uchendu (Mayor of Atlanta) and others. The merit awards ceremony and other activities during the festivities added color to the commemoration of the 2023 ORUMBA SOUTH DAY/NEW YAM FESTIVAL IN SULEJA.
