Former Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Anayo Nnebe, is dead. He passed away today, January 24, 2024 after a brief illness.
Rt Hon. Nnebe was a distinguished son of Anambra State, a patriotic Nigerian, who served the state with honour, integrity, and excellence.
He was a visionary leader, a brilliant legislator, and a passionate advocate for the welfare and development of his people and Anambra State.
Nnebe has been described by friends as a man of peace and wisdom.
Honourable Anayo Nnebe was born in 1963. He was a native of Awka in Anambra State, Nigeria. Hon. Anayo was a lawmaker and served in the Anambra State House of Assembly as Speaker and was at House of representatives.
Hon. Nnebe grew up in Awka, Anambra State where he also attended basic school. He obtained his West African Senior Certificate (WASC) in 1981 from Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka. Thereafter, he proceeded to the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka and graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology.
While in the Anambra State House of Assembly, he was speaker Speaker of the House from 2007-2011. In 2015, he was elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to represent Awka North and South Constituency. He hopes to improve the standard of parliament.
In April 2018, Hon. Nnebe announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). In a letter to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, he cited factionalization and several litigation within the PDP as reasons for abandoning the party. Hon. Nnebe regularly organized development programs for youths in his constituency such as football tournament which has 13.
Until his death,Nnebe was an aide to the current speaker of House of representatives and special Adviser to Governor Soludo on legislative matters
