Onitsha, Anambra, Nigeria History was made today as Nigeria emerged victorious at the prestigious World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024! Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, representing the nation, secured the coveted global first-place position, marking the first time Nigeria is clinching Gold in the competition’s 32-year history.
The World Affairs Challenge, organized by WorldDenver, empowers high school students to develop innovative solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, students tackled critical issues like climate change, poverty, and inequality.
The students, Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Somtochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene, and Ubah Jason, led by their coach, Mr. John Onuigbo, impressed the judges with their impactful project, “Wise Tales by Primus,” a captivating series of digital comic stories addressing environmental degradation, climate change, and substance abuse. “Wise Tales by Primus” aims to raise awareness and inspire positive change among young people.
CKC Onitsha’s journey started at the African Regional Competition, where they were named the highest-scoring Nigerian team and top five in Africa. The team proceeded to pitch in the virtual global finals, and following a rigorous evaluation, the team’s in-depth understanding and passionate delivery during the final Q&A session left a lasting impression. Delivering the judgment, the judges paid glowing tributes to the team’s outstanding performance, “Excellent presentation and applications of SMART indexes with extraordinary action plans for global outreach through language translation and website creative solutions dynamics. This is innovative, creative, and illustrious, the judges said.”
Today, they were officially declared the World Affairs Challenge 2024 Global Champion, surpassing teams from all over the globe participating in the championship. Redmond High School, WA, USA, and TEVITÖL High School, Turkey, came in third and second place, respectively.
Speaking on the win, the school principal, Rev. Fr. Celestine Arinze Okafor, said, “CKC Onitsha’s victory extends beyond the competition. It signifies the immense potential and innovative spirit of Nigerian youth, who not only secured a historic win but also inspired others to tackle global challenges with creativity and dedication. These boys deserve all the support they can get to build and push their project to millions of users.”
Adding to the excitement, the CKC Onitsha team will travel to Denver, Colorado, USA, later this month for the award ceremony! There, they will showcase their project to a global audience and connect with other young leaders.

Sir Dr Peter C. Ekwueme KSJI.
This is indeed a cheerful news for CKC and Nigeria. The only way norms and values can be revitalized and sustained is by giving human capital development the topmost priority through high quality education. There is no limit to what human beings can achieve when they are properly nurtured. Nigeria can only witness rapid socioeconomic development if educational system, the engine room of human capital development, is given the topmost priority it deserves.
Am so so proud of them. Kudos!!! May they continue to achieve greater feats in their future endeavors. Anambra is truly the light of Nigeria. Go my people. Gbosaa
This really shows that Nigerians can actually fit anywhere. Our youths are naturally endowed with competitive abilities especially when it becomes logical. It’s a wakening call to Nigerian leaders to make room for human capital development: a sector that has long been forgotten. Congratulations to CKC boys!
Kudos to these bright and promising youngsters from CKC Onitsha. This shows Nigeria can have a bright future if youths are given opportunity to lead and bring out their creativity. Congratulations.
These are the Primus inter pares. C.K.C Onitsha. A school to reckon with.
“Primus inter pares” is a Latin phrase that translates to “first among equals” in English. It refers to a person who holds a position of leadership or superiority within a group of peers, but who still considers themselves equal to those peers in terms of rights and privileges. This phrase is often used to describe situations where there is a leader or authority figure who, while having greater responsibility or authority, still respects the opinions and contributions of others in the group
Congratulations the CKC Team for soaring high in the face of daunting challenges in our environment. You have captured the true Nigerian Youth spirit. The “I can-do ” spirit . You have announced to the World that the Nigerian Youth isn’t lazy. You have asked your leaders to create for you the environment conducive for self actualisation.
We are indeed proud of you! Though in tribe and tongue we may differ in this accomplishment the entire Nation is united behind you. Nigeria can indeed be great !
Christ the King Catholic (CKC) School Onitsha, Anambra State, in Igbo land, has become the academic pride of Nigeria, (ma ha/fa kwe). Africa in general share in the world pride. To God be the glory. May these young ones continue to prove to us all that the future shall be well for this generation and beyond. Bravo to the management of the school and teachers. Thanks to the parents who finance the training and upkeep of their children.
May our people look beyond the ‘government’ to support the lad and CKC, in their sound academic endeavour. The sky is their stepping stone to higher and continuous wins in all aspects of their positive endeavours.
You are indeed the very best in the world, please continue to fly the flag of our great nation Nigeria
