Peter University, situated in the towns of Achina and Onne in Anambra, has achieved a significant milestone as the first tertiary institution in Nigeria to finish the installation of a fiber optic cable, providing internet access with a 35-meter mast.

Located in Aguata and Orumba North Local Government Areas in Anambra State, the university has laid fiber optics cables throughout the entire campus with ten terminations, connecting to the base station at Ekwulobia.

Once operational, the university’s radio station will benefit from this internet infrastructure.

Furthermore, the university is implementing Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate distant learning, allowing students from any part of the world to access lectures.

This announcement was made by Mr. Chuka Nnabuife, the university’s spokesperson, in a statement released to the press in Awka, the capital of Anambra state.

According to the statement, Mr. Nnabuife revealed this information as the university prepares to hold its first matriculation ceremony on April 19, 2024, for the 200 students admitted on October 3, 2023.

Peter University is jointly owned by the Awka and Ekwulobia Dioceses, led by Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor and Peter Cardinal Okpaleke respectively.

The matriculation event will be hosted by Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, and prominent guests such as Catholic bishops from Awka and Nnewi, governors, eminent scholars, government officials, political leaders, and industry captains from the South East are expected to attend.

The university has undergone rigorous accreditation processes and has received approval for its courses from the National University Commission (NUC) and other relevant agencies. It operates as a prestigious academic institution upholding strong Catholic values of intellectual excellence and moral integrity.

Nnabuife also mentioned that the university consists of four faculties, 12 departments, and 24 programs covering various disciplines ranging from humanities to social and management sciences, science and computing technologies, and health and Allied Sciences. The university aims to produce exceptional and focused graduates.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. (Prof) Chukwuemenam Emmanuel Umezinwa, emphasized the university’s mission to nurture a new generation of Nigerian youths distinguished by their extensive knowledge, strong sense of social responsibility, and unwavering dedication to productivity.
