Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled plans to commence a new phase of demolition in the state. This time, the focus will be on the dualization of Agulu-Nanka road where work will commence soon. The state government has warned some residents(illegal occupants)to vacate the area immediately.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information released a statement with regards to this:

“In line with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to providing a sustainable road network for the people of Anambra, the government is embarking on the dualization of Agulu and Nanka Roads. Although these roads fall under federal jurisdiction, they are primarily utilized by the people of Anambra. Governor Soludo has therefore reimagined them for reconstruction to enhance commercial, industrial, and agricultural activities along these routes,” he said.

The statement further advises property owners along the affected roads to plan their relocation promptly, as the law stipulates a setback of 47.5 meters from the road centerline for properties along federal highways. Failure to comply will result in consequences, as these structures will be deemed illegal.

The commissioner said that government has appealed to the traditional rulers and President Generals of the affected communities, as well as market leaders, to educate residents about the importance of relocating shops and houses away from these roadways. “It is also crucial for these community leaders to collaborate and designate suitable resettlement areas for those affected before the construction work commences”, the commissioner concluded.
