Anambra Most Successful Female Lawyer, Amaka Ezeno emerges First Chairman, AWLA Anambra

In a historic moment on Monday, 22nd April, 2024 the African Women Lawyers Association, AWLA elected her first Female Chairman in Awka.

In the euphoria of a remarkable success, below are the names of AWLA Anambra State Executives members:

  1. Amaka Ezeno – (Chairman)
  2. ⁠Immaculata Chidimma Okonkwo. – (Vice Chairman)
  3. ⁠Ezekwike Chekwube Violet – (Secretary)
  4. ⁠Genevieve Anulika Anorue -( Assistant Secretary)
  5. ⁠Chukwujekwu Chinyere -(Financial Secretary)
  6. ⁠Raluchukwu Nonso Jane -(Treasurer)
  7. ⁠Chioma Helen Madubuko-(Welfare Secretary 1)
  8. ⁠Adamma Eziamaka – (Welfare Secretary 2)
  9. ⁠Chinenye Okongwu -(Public Relations Officer)
  10. ⁠His Hon. Nkechinyelu Doris Ezeani (Program Coordinator)

The Association which is a Non-governmental, non-partisan, non-sectarian and non-profit making association, partners with other Women groups and other Civil Society Organizations having similar objectives.

The objects of the Association in brief are:-
(a) To strengthen networking between Nigerian /African Women Lawyers and or Women Lawyers of African descent, and or by marriage or partnership in diaspora.

(b) To share information and lobby for the promotion of gender equality in Nigeria /Africa through legislative reforms, public education & advocacy.

(c) To promote the principles and aims of the United Nations, Beijing Convention, the African Union and the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights as affecting Women & Children in Nigeria /Africa;

(d) To enhance the legal status of Women & Children in Nigeria/Africa;
(e) To do all such other things as are or may be deemed incidental or conducive to the attainment of any or all of the objects of the association for the emancipation of Women & Children.

The Association’s activities which are germane to the promotion of the objects of the Association involve :
(a) Disseminating information & knowledge through seminars, workshops, symposia of the laws affecting women & children in Nigeria /Africa.

(b) Advancing Opportunities for Women in all fields of public life.

(c) Advocating against any firm of discriminatory practices against Women & Children in Nigeria /Africa.

(d) Strengthening the Institutional capacity of member Associations.

(e) Providing an open forum for discussion of all matters pertaining or affecting Women & Children in Nigeria/ Africa.

(f) Raising funds through lawful means and applying same towards the attainment of the objectives of the Association.

(g) To provide pro-bono services, counseling and alternative dispute resolution services, give financial assistance to indigent Women, children & other deserving members of the public, to rehabilitate Women & Children.

(h) To assist in setting up AWLA in states where none exists.

(i) Promoting continuous legal education & development of Members.

(i) Providing professional, advisory & consultancy services in legal policy, research, planning & management to any other body or sector that may require such services.
