The Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical ) Umunze, Prof. Theresa Okoli has warned the matriculating students of the institution to desist from cultism, examination malpractices, fraudulent and criminal activities and other anti social vices that could jeopardise their academic activities in the college.
The Provost who handed the warning during the 35th/13th Joint matriculation ceremony held art the institution over the weekend, however reminded all the fresh students that their admission in the institution was strictly on merit and more reason to be serious with their studies.
She also advised the students to pursue their studies diligently by staying away from cultism or cult related matters or examination as strict disciplinary actions await any student who indulges in such act.
“This College has not recorded any cult-related incident for more than 15 years.
“We will continue to guard this record gallantly and ensure that no criminal gang or insidious groups. creep into this peaceful campus.
“This College pays attention to attendance to lectures. Students must have 75 percent attendance to lectures before they could write any examination and students who play truancy during lectures will bear the blame” she warned.
The new students were also warned to spend less time on idle-talks and chats on social media but rather set goals for themselves.
“The social media has reduced the world to a global village, and you are part of this digital age with your phone, you can access useful information that will give you an edge in your academic work as your race for the future has just commenced.
The Provost also informed that the College Virtual Library provides free internet services for staff and students to carry out their research with ease.
She however noted that the College has keyed into the Federal Government Students Loan Scheme to widen access to tertiary education.
“The College will continue to collaborate with the Federal Government for full Implementation of the students’ loan scheme.
All the students that applied for this loan scheme should be patient as the federal government works out the modalities for its implementation.
The Commissioner for Education, Anambra state, Prof. Ngozi Chuma represented by the Director of Higher Education, Mrs Oyibo Alor expressed satisfaction with the quality of learning and teaching in the college and advised the students to take their studies seriously.
In their separate speeches, the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, Prof, Charles Esimone who was represented by Director of Education Prof.Vivian Nwogo and the provost, Federal College of Education, Ofeme Ohuhu in Umuahia, Abia state, Dr. Titus Ezeme also congratulated the matriculating students
Some of the matriculating students, Ngbe Oluchukwu Marycynthia of Chemistry department, Ntukokwu Onyedika Promise of Fine and Applied Arts and Micheal Chimaobi of English Education department expressed happiness over their admission in the college and promised to be good students of the institution .
