We’ll fight for your rights – NAWOJ assures Anambra children

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra state chapter has pledged its commitment towards advocating for the rights of the child as well as to speak against child labor.

Chairperson of the body, Tochukwu Ifejika gave the assurance in a statement to commemorate 2024 Children’s day celebration in the state.

She described children as precious gifts and inheritance from God, insisting that children in the state deserved the right to live, education, health, water, food, clean environment, among others.

While noting that no child deserved to be out of school, Ifejika charged them to be of good behavior in order to excel in every life endeavor.

The statement reads in part, “Anambra state chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) join host of others to wish our lovely Anambra children a happy Children’s day celebration.

“Children are precious gifts and inheritance from God. You are dear and precious to have around.

“The world would have been meaningless without you. Having you around us reminds us of how it used to be with us. You give a lot of meaning to life’s existence and we are proud to have you around.

“We at the Anambra state chapter of NAWOJ will advocate for the rights of the child, speak against child labor, no child deserves to be out of school and we will continue to campaign for the implementation of the charter at the Geneva convention of 1959.

“Anambra Children deserve the right to live, the right to education, health, water, food, clean environment… and we will join all well meaning advocates and every appropriate quarters to make it come true for you.

“We charge you to be of good cheer and of good behavior to excel in every life endeavors. Be bold to step to great attainments even if you fail at least you keep trying until you attain success.

“Anambra children keep shining and continue to make us proud.”

World Children’s day is celebrated all over on 20th November in commemoration with the first proclamation in Geneva on declaration of International Children’s day in 1925 but every country is at liberty to choose a date to celebrate her children hence Nigeria’s Children’s day on 27th May every year.
