Another Anambra lawmaker ,Hon Peter Uzokwe has expressed his dissatisfaction with the inclusion of Ozubulu in the proposed bill for the creation of Orlu State sponsored by House member representing Ideato North and Ideato South of Imo State in the lower chamber Hon Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere.
Hon Uzokwe soon after he contributed to the debate on Electoral Act Amendment Bill, took to the floor once more to express his dissatisfaction and that of the entire Ozubulu people where he hails from on the Bill so sponsored by Hon Ugochinyere. He said that the bill did not follow the laid down rules for state creation and argued that the process as it were lacked consultation and consensus which are necessary ingredients that can make bill of such kind succeeds.
Uzokwe explained that everyone in the National Assembly including the leadership of the House are open to the creation of the 6th state for the South East but not yet in agreement on how to go about it. He explained that there is agitation for Orashi State, Anioma State and now Njaba/Orlu State. It is left for South East/Igbo caucus in the National Assembly to come together and chat the way forward. He said that certain consideration should be paramount which includes historical background, distribution of local government in the existing 5 States, culture, the viability of the proposed state and most importantly the willingness of the subordinate towns and local government to freely and unequivocally join the new state. He concluded that the present stock of National Assembly are responsible Congress men and women who are in the best position and determined more than ever to give South East the long deserved 6th state.
The House of Representatives have adjourned it’s Plenary till July 2nd. Meanwhile consultation and the battle of wit continues.
