A conductor of an articulated vehicle lost his life in a fatal accident along Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway, Anambra State.
The crash which occurred around 4.30pm on Thursday involved a commercial Mercedes Actros truck with Registration Number: WKR824XA.
According to eyewitness, the driver lost control as a result of tyre burst and crashed.
“The driver sustained injury while the conductor died, ” the witness added.
Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to tyre burst.
He sympathised with the deceased family and prayed for the victim’s quick recovery.
He urged motorist to ensure their tyres were duely checked before plying the road, just as he emphasised the importance of spare tyres on all vehicles.
He said, “A fatal road traffic crash was recorded today 4th July, 2024 at Tarzan by Ifeanyichukwu motors, along Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway.
“A driver identified as Christopher Obodieze with a commercial Mercedes Actros truck with Registration. Number: WKR824XA.
“The probable cause of the fatal road traffic crash was tyre burst.
“Two male adults were involved in the crash. 1 male adult sustained injury while 1 male adult was killed (the conductor).
“Before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje, Ogidi Police Division personnel had taken the killed victim to the morgue. Traffic control is ongoing, while offloading is in process.”
