A registered Igbo civil society group, League of Igbo Youth Lawyers (LIYOLAW) has distanced itself from the planned nation wide protests slated August 1.

The group argued that Igbo youths had nothing to protest about given lack of proper integration of Igbos within the national socio-political framework.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday in Awka, Anambra State, President of the group, Stanley I Okafor, Esq assured that the group would work to distance Igbo youths from the planned protests to forestall the usual scape-goat retribution usually meted out against Ndigbo.

“We would work to distance Igbo youths from the planned protests so that we can avoid the usual scape-goat retribution usually meted out against our people.

“Let our sister regions lead the self expressions if they may, while we focus on persuading government to do the right thing, and to grant freedom to detained Nnamdi Kanu” he added.

Meanwhile, the group, in a communique signed by its national Secretary, Barrister Obinnaya Asiegbu praised Deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Barr Ben Kalu for his efforts towards the passage of the bill for the establishment of South East Development Commission (SEDC), and its assent by President Bola Tinubu.

The group noted that the Commission which bill was sponsored by Kalu who represents Bende federal constituency was a landmark achievement for which the lawmaker has distinguished himself in the service of Ndi Igbo.

It observed that the Igbo homeland had been abandoned in the aftermath of the civil war leading to neglect and absence of infrastructure and development in the region.

The group pledged to seek greater collaboration with the south east caucus of the National Assembly as means of making concrete and realistic developmental matters affecting the region.
