Chukwuma Umeoji, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has re-emerged in Anambra State politics, sparking speculation about his intentions to replace late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah or contest the 2024 governorship election.

Umeoji, who has been relatively inactive since the 2021 governorship poll, met with the Anambra Comrades Community Stakeholders, a coalition of youth organizations, at his country home in Ezinifite, Aguata, on Saturday.

The meeting has fueled rumours about Umeoji’s interest in contesting the upcoming by-election to replace Ubah, who died last month, or the 2025 governorship election, scheduled for November next year.

During the interactive session, Umeoji expressed gratitude to the youth group for their visit, describing it as “timely and a welcome development.”

The group urged him to continue his good works for the people of Anambra State.

Umeoji’s meeting with the youth group has generated excitement and suspense in Anambra State politics, with many interpreting it as a sign of his intention to re-enter the political arena.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a by-election to replace Ubah, who had expressed interest in contesting the 2025 governorship election before his death.

Umeoji’s move is seen as a strategic positioning for the upcoming elections, and his meeting with the youth group is believed to be a key step in his bid to garner support and momentum.
