Val Obienyem, Media Aide to Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi has described the alleged arrest of his principal and his wife as baseless fabrication.

Obienyem, in a statement titled, “Peter Obi’s Alleged Arrest, Fred Chukwulobe, and the Importance of Responsible Journalism”, said Obi could not have been arrested as he is currently out of the country.

He urged the public to disregard the rumor.

He said, “My phone was off today because I was sponsoring two weddings. The first ceremony took place in Agulu at 10 am, followed by the second, involving two of my staff, in Awka at 12 noon.

“After the Awka service, I switched my phone back on and immediately received a call from my senior colleague, Ichie Fred Chukwulobe.

“Fred asked, “Val, is it true?”
“What?” I replied.
“Was Mr. Peter Obi and his wife arrested?” Fred inquired.
I responded, “His Excellency is currently out of the country.”

“I urge everyone to disregard any reports of his arrest as baseless fabrications.”
