Free education: Anambra school heads risk sack over sabotage

Anambra state Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has described as unprecedented pronouncement by Governor Chukwuma Soludo that all children of the State should enjoy free education irrespective of class.

The Commissioner stated this in a chat with newsmen shortly after the governor’s meeting with Principals and Head teachers in the State.

Soludo had during the interactive session announced extension of the free education program of the State to include students of senior secondary schools in community schools.

Speaking with newsmen, Chuma-Udeh warned that any school head caught sabotaging the free education policy would be sanctioned.

“The pronouncement by Governor Chukwuma Soludo that all children of the State should enjoy free education from pre-primary, through primary, junior secondary to senior secondary school is unprecedented.

“Any school head caught sabotaging this free education policy will be systematically flushed out,” she warned.

Describing teachers as foundation of every society, Soludo said the meeting was convened to enable the continuation of conversation about an agenda to securing the future by breaking the dynasties of poverty.

“Today, we will be putting monies back to thousands, hundreds of thousands of parents of Anambra State,” he said.

The governor who also spoke on the achievements of his administration in health, youth empowerment and other sectors, revealed the intention of the administration to upscale the public education system and give the children of the poor equal opportunity with the children of the middle and upper classes to enable the breaking of the dynasties of poverty.

He directed that all the monies collected as school fees from senior secondary school students will be refunded to them.
