Nsugbe, Nigeria — The Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, yesterday joined the students of Holy Rosary College, Nsugbe, in celebrating their 10th anniversary. The event marked a significant milestone for the school, which Obi had the privilege of founding in 2013.

The celebration coincided with another major event: the centenary of the Holy Rosary Sisters. Founded by Bishop Joseph Shanahan in 1924, the order has spent the last 100 years devoted to education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, empowering individuals and transforming lives throughout Nigeria.

Reflecting on the Sisters’ century-long mission, Obi attended a Mass yesterday at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity in Onitsha. The service honored the Sisters’ unwavering dedication to humanity, with Obi commending their life-changing contributions and encouraging them to continue their vital work, particularly in education, healthcare, and supporting the impoverished.

As part of his commitment to their mission, Obi pledged ₦120 million to be disbursed over the next two years. Out of this sum, ₦100 million will go through the Holy Rosary Sisters’ headquarters in Enugu, aimed at supporting their educational, healthcare, and humanitarian projects, including the ongoing facilities in Nsukka. The remaining ₦20 million will be allocated to Holy Rosary College, Nsugbe, fulfilling a promise Obi made towards the end of his governorship, a cheque that was canceled by the subsequent administration.

During the event, Obi reiterated his dedication to education, a cornerstone of his leadership during his time as governor. He emphasized the importance of continuous investment in education and healthcare, sectors that he believes are crucial to the nation’s development.
