Ahead of the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election, the Rainbow Coalition, comprising members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party (LP), has endorsed Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, CEO of Sea Horse Nigerian Limited, to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

This decision was made during a meeting in Awka, Anambra state capital, where the coalition emphasized the need for the Old Nnewi political block to occupy the senatorial seat, considering the Old Aguata block currently holds the governorship position under Prof. Charles Soludo.

The coalition cited several reasons for endorsing Onunkwo, including the need for balance in representation, ensuring the Old Nnewi block has a voice in the Red Chambers, as well as his impressive credentials, capacity, and experience, making him ideal to steer the district to prosperity.

Additionally, Onunkwo’s leadership style aligns with the coalition’s vision for robust and optimal representation .

The Rainbow Coalition has urged the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leadership to endorse Onunkwo’s candidacy and appealed to the Governor to provide necessary backing.

This endorsement comes after Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s untimely demise on July 27, 2024.

The bye-election, scheduled to fill the vacant seat, will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South senatorial district from 2019 until his death, was a prominent businessman and politician.
His passing has created a vacancy, prompting the upcoming bye-election.

The Rainbow Coalition’s endorsement of Chief Ebuka Onunkwo is a significant development in the lead-up to the election.
