Child Protection Network, CPN, Anambra State has called on secondary school students to stay clear of illicit sexual relationship which is capable of distracting and ruining their academic dreams.

Coordinator, Eucharia Anekwe, gave the charge during a sensitization program on Child Sexual Abuse at Ideke Grammar School Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

She warned them against the distraction that comes with sexual relationship at their tender age. “Anyone below 18 years is a child or minor. You will not be able to concentrate on your academic.

“We are to tell you that child sexual abuse is against your right and should be reported. You should not allow anybody to molest you because you have right to dignity. For the boys here, be careful not to sexually molest anyone.

“When such happens to anyone, report to your teachers or school authorities or your parents who will take it up against the violators. If you need further help, report it to us directly and any violator, whether old or small, will bag at least 14 years or life imprisonment.”

According to her, the school sensitization is targeted at spreading the message against the menacing scourge. “That is why we started from school to spread this message because the problem is spreading. Reach us through our phone numbers. We will answer you immediately.

“Remember, sexual misconduct has denied many children graduation from the university because some lecturers refused to pass them because they did not agree. I want you to be serious with yourselves and studies. Concentrate on your studies at this time so that you grow to become academic giants”.

The School principal, Osakwe Winifred appreciated CPN for the intervention she described as apt and timely. “On behalf of the Principal, Ideke Grammar School, teachers and students, we appreciate the message you brought to us early this morning. We see your love and concern for us to have travelled from Awka to this place at this time.

Osakwe, represented by the Vice President Administration (Junior), Charity Aningwu encouraged the students to put the lessons into practice in their interest and in the interest of the society.

“A lot of immorality is going on around us today. Children, let us join forces with these people to salvage our society,” she added.
