Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media about his death.

In a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Mefor described the rumours as baseless.

Mefor had recently criticized some religious leaders for promoting wealth without work in their teachings, which he believes has contributed to insecurity in Anambra State and the South-East region.

His comments sparked controversy, with a certain priest wishing him dead in a viral video.

The rumours about his death may have been fueled by a report from Anambra Gist, which claimed that : “Mefor had suffered a cardiac arrest after returning home from work and had been transferred to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Mortuary. However, attempts to confirm this news with Mefor’s family and Government House officials were unsuccessful.”

Responding to the rumours, Mefor said, “My brother, perhaps I’m the Chairman of my funeral… If I die today, I won’t be called an Ogbanje.”

He emphasized that he is not afraid of death, stating that “death is a time for rest.”

Mefor also criticized those promoting “voodoo money making” and “prayer miracle centres,” saying these practices are not part of the state’s culture.

He emphasized that the people of Anambra are hardworking and will continue to speak out against get-rich-quick gospels.

Mefor confirmed that he is alive and well, saying “My brother, happy New Year.”

His response has put to rest speculation about his demise.
