A two-story building under construction has collapsed in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. The building is situated next to the Central Bank Awka office.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown as officials declined to provide any comments, citing a lack of clarity on the situation. Eyewitnesses reported that some workers managed to escape before the collapse occurred. An unspecified number of individuals are believed to be trapped inside, with three persons said to have sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a state-owned medical facility.

Many questions have been raised for the authorities, with the most pressing being: why are building collapses happening frequently in Anambra, and who should be held accountable?”
