The former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, H.E. Peter Obi; the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Sen. Tony Nwoye; and the Honorable Member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, visited the popular Ogbo Ogwu (Drug Market) at Bridge Head, Onitsha. This visit followed a raid by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), during which large quantities of suspected substandard drugs worth millions of Naira were confiscated. The purpose of the visit was to conduct an on-site assessment of the situation.

Speaking to the protesting traders, Mr. Peter Obi addressed concerns that businesses unrelated to drugs—such as those dealing in paints, keys, plumbing, and other products—were also affected by the raid. He assured the traders that he would engage with government officials at all levels to ensure that only those found guilty of wrongdoing would face consequences. He further emphasized the need to protect legitimate businesses from unnecessary destruction by the agency.

Labour Party lawmakers who accompanied Peter Obi to the market assured the traders that they would intervene and make sure they resume normal trading activities.
