Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has ignited a bitter confrontation with the Catholic Church, dragging the state into one of the most dangerous political and religious crises in its history. His actions mirror the disgraceful clash between Governor Ikedi Ohakim and Rev. Fr. Eustace Okorie in 2010. But this time, it is even worse—an outright war against the very institution that has shaped Anambra’s moral, educational, and social fabric.

Soludo rode to power on the goodwill of religious communities, especially the Catholic Church, which stood firmly behind him. Now, he has turned his back on the Church, insulting its leaders and attacking those who dare to speak the truth. His public outbursts and abusive words against Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebubemonso) expose not just a lack of respect, but a deep-seated fear of the truth. What exactly is his problem? Is he so drunk on power that he now sees the Church as a threat? Or is he simply trying to crush any voice that reminds him of his failure?

For years, the Catholic Church has been a pillar of justice, fairness, and development in Anambra. It has provided moral direction, education, healthcare, and hope to millions. But rather than work with the Church to improve governance, Soludo has chosen the path of arrogance and destruction. His recent attacks on Fr. Obimma are nothing more than a desperate attempt to silence the voice of truth.

Fadaella Biscuits

What crime did Fr. Obimma commit? He only told the truth as it is. He called out Soludo for the rising insecurity in Anambra, where mass killings and violence have become the norm under his watch. Instead of acknowledging his failure and seeking solutions, Soludo is now fighting the Church with propaganda and media attacks. Leading this shameless campaign is a certain e-rat, Ejimofor Opara, a so-called (amateur) knight of the Church, who has seized this opportunity offered by Governor Soludo to beg for favors. Desperate to fund his medical treatment and support his impoverished family, whose struggles extend from his children to his parents—he seems to harbor resentment against the Church, blaming it for his misfortunes.

It is shameful that governance in Anambra has been reduced to petty vindictiveness, led by a man whose arrogance has blinded him to reality. Soludo’s leadership lacks morality, empathy, and direction. His government thrives on intimidation, suppression of truth, and reckless abuse of power.

Despite all these, the Catholic Church will not be silenced. Priests like Fr. Obimma have dedicated their lives to serving God and humanity, sacrificing personal comfort to uplift communities. His Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry in Uke has transformed a once-forgotten town into a religious and economic hub, providing security, jobs, and opportunities for thousands.

No government in history has ever won a battle against the Church. Soludo’s media propaganda and attacks will fail because truth cannot be buried. Instead of fighting men of God, he should focus on fixing the insecurity, poverty, and lawlessness that have taken over Anambra under his leadership. But perhaps, Soludo already knows he has failed—that is why he is desperate to silence those who remind him of it.
