Rotary Club Executes WASH Project in Onitsha

The Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis, in collaboration with the EarlyAct Club of New Bethel Primary School has successfully carried out a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Project.

The President, said the project was aimed at promoting proper hygiene and sanitation among school children.

She added that the initiative aligned with Rotary’s commitment to improving health and well-being in communities.

She said, “The project focused on three key areas: hand hygiene, personal cleanliness, and oral health.

“Through generous donations and active participation from Rotarians, teachers, and students, the project made a significant impact on the young beneficiaries.

She highlighted the project executed to include donation of Hand-Washing Buckets, distribution of Soap and Towels, sharing of toothbrushes aimed at encouraging proper body hygiene among pupils.

“The Rotary Club donated hand-washing buckets strategically placed around the school. These buckets will ensure that students have access to clean water for regular handwashing, reducing the spread of germs and illnesses.

“Each pupil received a bar of soap and a towel to reinforce the importance of maintaining personal cleanliness. The distribution was accompanied by a brief demonstration on effective handwashing techniques to ensure proper hygiene practices.

“Understanding the importance of oral hygiene, the Rotary Club provided toothbrushes to all students. A short practical session was conducted to teach the children the correct method of brushing their teeth, emphasizing the need for regular oral care.

On impact and reception of the project, Arinze revealed that it received overwhelming appreciation from the school administration, teachers, and students.

“The Head Teacher of New Bethel Primary School expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis for their continuous support in fostering a healthier school environment.

“The pupils were excited to receive their hygiene kits and actively participated in the educational demonstrations. Teachers also pledged to reinforce hygiene habits among the students to sustain the project’s impact.

“The successful execution of the WASH Project underscores the commitment of the Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis to serving humanity and changing lives.

“By equipping young children with essential hygiene tools and knowledge, this project has contributed to fostering a culture of cleanliness and good health in the school community.”
