The primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra state chapter promises to be very keen and the fairest contest of all the parties in the slated November 8 gubernatorial polls in the state.
This is because the big wigs and top contenders to clinching the flag for the party are top notch even though the race is beginning to separate the boys from the men.
Inside sources say Prince Nicolas Ukachukwu is having an edge over other frontrunners like Val Ozigbo, Obiora Okonkwo and John Bosco Onunkwo.
At the Beautiful Gate, venue for the accreditation of delegates from Anambra South and Anambra Central, the delegates are patiently and calmly waiting for the commencement of accreditation by the National Election Committee of the party.
When our correspondent got to the accreditation venue, security operatives and party hands were on ground seeing to the smooth and smart identification protocols and settling down of the people already allowed entrance into the venue.
Various non governmental and non partisan observers as well as journalists were pleasantly surprised at the peaceful and rancour free procedures, contrary to expectations in view of high profile personalities contesting for the party ticket.
Speaking to newsmen, Chairman, APC Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon Innocent Orizu commended the peaceful disposition of the delegates.
He however dismissed as false information circulating that the accreditation venue was marred with violence, describing the rumour as handiwork of enemies.
“We’ve been here since morning. Accreditation has been peaceful. You can see everyone is calm. If there’s any crisis, we can’t be sitting down comfortably this way,” he said.
In a contest such as this, it is not unexpected that those already getting the feels that the aspirants they are rooting for are not making any head way, to begin attempts at fermenting trouble.
But most delegates who appear to be on top of the game refused to be distracted or drawn into any controversy ocassioning violence or disruptive tendencies.
As at the time of filing this report, delegates at the accreditation venue look forward to eventual voting process to give APC the desired field general like Ukachukwu, who will go ahead to unseat the incumbent at Agu Awka, and proceed to provide democracy dividends to the citizenry.
