An Anglican clergy, Ven Chukwuma Oranye has urged parents to sow good seeds for their children to secure their future.

Oranye made the call while delivering his sermon during the 21st annual Diocesan Council of Laity retreat themed, “Sow Good Seeds Ahead”, holding at Church of Pentecost, Awka.

He also urged parents to be mindful with the words they use on your children, describing spoken words as powerful.

“Mind the words you use on your children. Bless your children with good words, don’t curse them, no matter how provoked you are” he added.

Oranye, who is the Vicar of the hosting church, expressed worry over lukewarmness of some church members who he accused of involvement in idolatry, including visiting native doctors, even when they claim to be believers.

He however commended efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo towards sanitizing the state of idolatry and other vices bedeviling the state.

He said, “There are lots of work to be done, including evangelism and exposing those who visit native doctors. Stop visiting native doctors, there’s no life there. Turn away from evil altars.

“The saying, God helps those who help themselves is a statement from the pit of hell. Whatever God can’t do for you, no one else can do it for you.

“Whatever you sow today, you reap tomorrow. Invest godly seeds on your children.”

President, Awka Diocesan Council of Laity, Anglican Communion, Sir Bonny Nwabuike called on members of the Laity Council to inculcate in their children the virtues of truth, godliness and hardwork to guarantee a better society for all.

He regretted failure of parents to sow good seeds in their children, saying such failure had resulted in the church losing their youths to idolatry, social vices as well as poor economy, general insecurity, and corruption facing Nigeria.

He assured that the laity council would institutionalise programmes that would make the youths give more of their time to church activities than idolatry.

He charged christians to sow good seeds in the Lord’s vineyard by serving God with their time, talent and treasure in order to reap bountiful harvest and make heaven.

He thanked the Archbishop of Province of Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rt. Rev Alexander Ibezim for fixing the meeting, as well as the host church.
