Breaking News: Tsunami in APC as Moghalu dumps party

The George Moghalu Campaign Organization (GMCO) has lambasted the Anambra state Government led by Governor Charles Soludo for allegedly instigating what it called a politically motivated vote of no confidence on the deputy governorships candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mrs Ifeona Okaro.

Chief George Moghalu is the LP Governorship candidate for the November election while Okaro is his running mate.

In a statement issued Saturday evening and signed Dr. Ikenna Agu, Director of Media & Publicity George Moghalu Campaign Organization (GMCO), Campaign Organisation described the purported vote of no confidence as a desperate and cowardly attack on womanhood, Democracy Anambra’s future.

The GMCO statement reads: “The attention of the George Moghalu Campaign Organization (GMCO) has been drawn to a politically motivated charade held under the supervision of the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo.

“In this hasty and stage-managed gathering, a so-called “vote of no confidence” was passed against Mrs. Ifeoma Veronica Okaro, the President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Women’s Wing—a respected grassroots leader and running mate to Chief Dr. George Moghalu on the Labour Party ticket.

“This disgraceful act is a desperate political witch-hunt motivated by fear of the growing popularity and acceptance of the Moghalu–Okaro ticket ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

“It is an attack not just on Mrs. Okaro, but on Anambra women, democracy, and the right to free political association,” the statement said.

The Campaign Organisation insisted that “Mrs. Okaro’s only “crime” is accepting to serve Ndi Anambra on the Labour Party platform—a decision widely celebrated by women, youths, professionals, and community leaders.

“Her impeccable character, grassroots connection, and leadership track record are well known.

“That a serving Commissioner for Women Affairs would stoop to lead such a political lynch mob exposes the desperation and moral collapse of the APGA-led government under Prof. Charles Soludo.

“Mrs. Okaro remains the authentic and undisputed leader of ASATU Women. Her integrity, vision, and inclusive leadership have earned her the respect of women across all 21 LGAs in Anambra.
“The real fear within the Soludo administration is her rising influence and ability to galvanize grassroots support—a quality the government sorely lacks.”

GMCO went further to say that it condemned “this coordinated smear campaign. It is nothing but a diversion from the failures of the APGA government: decaying infrastructure, worsening insecurity, unpaid workers, and a failing public service system.
“Mrs. Obinabo, who has been silent in the face of real crises affecting women—such as extortion, insecurity, and lack of economic support—has now found her voice to attack a woman of credibility and purpose.

“We urge Ndi Anambra, especially our women, to see through this plot. This is not just about Mrs. Okaro—it is about protecting every woman’s right to aspire, lead, and participate freely in our democracy. Anambra is not a political fiefdom, and its women are not tools for partisan vendettas.

“We also challenge Prof. Soludo to publicly disassociate himself from this abuse of office or be seen as complicit in this disgraceful episode.

“To Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, we say: your courage is admirable. Do not be deterred. The mud they sling only affirms your threat to a failed status quo.

“The Moghalu–Okaro ticket represents the leadership Ndi Anambra deserve—one rooted in service, sincerity, and hope. No amount of intimidation will derail our resolve to restore dignity and progress to Anambra.

“The world is watching. Ndi Anambra are watching. And history will judge,” GMCO said.
