A group of Labour Party (LP) national assembly members from Anambra North, led by Senator Tony Nwoye and Hon. Afam Ogene, have strongly condemned the suspension of Hon. Abuchi Udemezue (also known as Isienyi) by the Anambra State House of Assembly.

According to a press release signed by the lawmakers, the suspension is seen as a hasty and unjust move by the State Government, led by Governor Soludo, to silence Hon. Udemezue’s criticism of the government’s actions and demands for democracy dividends for his constituents in Ayamelum LGA.

The lawmakers expressed concern that the suspension was done without fair hearing and adequate notice, and noted that such action sets a dangerous precedent for silencing opposition voices in the state.

They urged the leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly to revisit the suspension and ensure that Hon. Udemezue is accorded fair hearing and institutional discipline is administered in a transparent and lawful manner if found guilty.

The lawmakers also called on the State Government to address the issue of marginalization and infrastructure decay in Ayamelum LGA, which Hon. Udemezue had raised.
