The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa, earlier today received the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery CMG, on a courtesy visit to the APGA National Secretariat in Abuja.

The meeting served as an important platform for dialogue on issues of mutual interest, with a particular focus on the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State scheduled for November 8, 2025. Both parties exchanged views on the importance of credible elections in sustaining Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Discussions also touched on the broader subject of constitutional reforms currently underway in the country.

The APGA Chairman emphasized the need for reforms that will strengthen governance, deepen federalism, and ensure that Nigeria’s democratic institutions are better positioned to serve the people effectively.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the meeting highlighted preparations by political parties, electoral bodies, and stakeholders to guarantee transparent and participatory electoral processes. The Chairman stressed APGA’s readiness to play its role responsibly in upholding the sanctity of the ballot.

In his remarks, Barr. Ezeokenwa expressed profound appreciation for the United Kingdom’s consistent and strategic support in promoting democracy and good governance in Nigeria. He acknowledged the UK’s contributions to electoral integrity, civic education, and institutional capacity building.

The APGA Chairman also used the occasion to reaffirm the party’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the Anambra governorship election will be free, fair, transparent, and credible. He assured that APGA, under his leadership, remains fully committed to internal democracy and the rule of law.

He further noted that the party is determined to consolidate on the transformational progress already achieved in Anambra State under the leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR. According to him, the focus of APGA remains on delivering people-centered governance anchored on economic reforms, human capital development, and infrastructural renewal.

Ambassador Montgomery, on his part, commended APGA’s leadership for fostering inclusive dialogue and expressed the UK’s continued interest in supporting Nigeria’s democratic process. He emphasized the importance of credible elections as a foundation for stability, growth, and international partnerships.

The courtesy visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening democracy, governance, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The engagement, described as cordial and productive, set the stage for deeper collaboration between APGA and international partners in advancing the cause of democracy.

This visit stressed APGA’s dedication not only to the forthcoming Anambra governorship election but also to the broader vision of a democratic Nigeria where institutions are strong, governance is accountable, and citizens are empowered.
