The Anambra State Police Command has recorded yet another major breakthrough in its sustained fight against crime, as operatives attached to Nnobi Division under Ogidi Area Command, in collaboration with the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group, arrested a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect and two receivers of stolen motorcycles in the early hours of Monday, October 13, 2025.

The arrest, which took place at Iruowelle Village, Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area, followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of four Kymco 125 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the breakthrough came after a report was lodged at the Nnobi Police Division by one of the victims, who narrated that on October 11, 2025, while returning home with his wife on his black Kata Pen motorcycle, they were suddenly ambushed and dispossessed of the bike by two young men around Awka-Etiti town.

Following the report, the police operatives, acting on credible intelligence and through diligent surveillance, traced and apprehended the prime suspect, identified as Chiemerie Okeke, alongside two accomplices who allegedly specialized in receiving and reselling stolen motorcycles within the area. The swift operation also resulted in the recovery of four stolen motorcycles from the suspects.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, commended the operatives and the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group for their professionalism, synergy, and timely intervention that led to the successful operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring a crime-free Anambra, while warning criminal elements that the state would remain unsafe for their operations.

The Commissioner further urged residents of the state to continue to support the Police by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling crime and maintaining public safety across communities.

Meanwhile, the Police Command said investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
