The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded Anambra State gubernatorial election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has mocked the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), accusing the ruling party of buying votes instead of testing its popularity at the polls.

Ukachukwu made the remarks on Sunday during a post-election press briefing held in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

According to him, the over 90,000 votes he garnered were from citizens who refused to sell their conscience to vote buyers allegedly working for APGA.

“The result announced does not reflect the will of the people, but rather the influence of those who were financially induced by APGA,” Ukachukwu stated.

He argued that if the APC had resorted to vote buying, its figures would have been much higher.

Despite the outcome, Ukachukwu insisted that the election demonstrated that the APC has firmly established its presence in Anambra State, contrary to pre-election claims that the party lacked structure or followership in the state.

The APC candidate also accused some security agents of intimidation and bias during the polls, alleging that several of his supporters were arrested on false charges of vote buying.

“Security agents went after my supporters, harassed them, and even confiscated their money meant for feeding on election day,” he lamented.

Ukachukwu further expressed sadness over the reported burning of a supporter’s house ,a young widow from Anambra East allegedly because her mobilization efforts that helped the APC win her ward.

“Today, she is homeless, and the police have yet to arrest anyone responsible,” he said.

He maintained that most of those arrested during the election were APC members, accusing the authorities of selective persecution.

Ukachukwu disclosed that he is still gathering data and evidence concerning the conduct of the election before deciding on his next line of action.

“We are still collecting reports and data from across the state. Once we have all the facts and consult with the party leadership, we will decide the next steps. We won’t rush into any decision,” he added.
