Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on Thursday donated N10 million to Tansian University during a visit to the institution, where he charged students to rebuild Nigeria through critical thinking and civic responsibility.

Speaking at the university’s campus in Umunya, Obi was received by management, staff, and students.

Prof. Bonaventure Anaeto, representing the Vice-Chancellor, commended Obi for his consistent support, including a prior donation in March 2025 and his role in establishing the institution’s School of Nursing.

Obi expressed delight that the nursing school, which he helped set up, has been accredited as an official examination centre by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

“I assured them that I will continue to assist in enhancing both academic and spiritual formation,” Obi said.

Addressing students, he stressed that nation-building requires deliberate investment in human capital, especially initiatives that lift people out of poverty.

Referencing a recent remark by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump calling Nigeria “disgraced,” Obi urged the youth not to accept the label but to hold leaders accountable.

“Nigeria is not disgraced because others say so. We disgrace ourselves when we fail to invest in the next generation,” he said.

He cited a personal testimony from a friend in London who received medical care from nurses trained in schools he supported in Anambra, contrasting such impact with the practice of paying citizens to vote during elections.

“That is the legacy I want, not mortgaging the future for short-term gain,” Obi declared.
