Tansian University Inducts Pioneer Nurses into Nursing services

Tansian University Umunya, Anambra state has officially inducted their pioneer graduates of Nursing students into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

 

The maiden induction and oath-taking ceremony took place at the University Auditorium, Oba campus.

The theme of the ceremony is “Building a professional Legacy in Nursing:The Journey Begins”

 

The Vice Chancellor of the prestigious university, Professor Eugene Nwadialor in his speech, urged the Inductees to try and market the institution wherever they found themselves.

“You should not forget where you come from because today you are reaping what you sowed” he said.

 

The chairman of the occasion, Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna in her speech, congratulated the graduands urging them to go out, touch lives and excel but warned them not to misused their license .

 

Speaking on theme of the event, the keynote speaker, Dr Chika Chioma Harrieta Odira advised the inductees to bear in mind that “Nurses build their legacy daily through the quality of their care, their professionalism and their influence on others.

 

“Your legacy begins now. Every action, decision, and patient interaction contributes to your legacy. Embrace your unique journey and the opportunity to make lasting positive change.

Begin today to build your legacy as a proud ethical and a compassionate nurse”

 

The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Nursing and Midwifery Council Of Nigeria (NMCN) who was represented by Stella Godswill, urged the inductees to take every one in course of their practice as their relations and of age bracket because they are the ones to treat them .

 

She further charged them to change the narrative and be responsible in social media.

 

“For the parents ,You will harvest your fruits and undergraduates remember that examination malpractice is serious offence.

 

The head of Department, Nursing sciences, Associate Prof. Chukwudi Afam Ndu in his speech reminded them that the oath they are taking now is a mere ceremonial words.

 

“It is a binding pledge to place patients at the center of your practice to safeguard their dignity and to uphold the highest standard of noble profession.

 

“You are committed to place the welfare, safety and right of patients at the forefront of every action.

 

“Practicing with competence, honesty and highest standard of clinical judgement to provide safe, competent and evidence based care .

 

“Protecting patient confidentiality, respecting their autonomy, advocating for health, preventing illness and promoting well-being in the communities you serve.

 

A minute silent was observed to remember The Pioneer Head of Department, Professor Pauline Ezenduka and one of students of Nursing department, Anya Obinna who died along the line of their study.

 

The chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. E.S.C Obiorah, the Pro.Chancellor, Prof. Elilis Idemobi, Vice Chancellor, Prof Eugene Nwadialor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Bonaventure Anetoh, Ag. Registrar Rev. Dr. Innocent Anthony Uke, Dean, Faculty of Health sciences and Technology, Prof Felix Arene among other dignitaries graced the occasion.

 

The pioneer class representative, Nnaji Chinecherem Deborah who promised to carry the identity with pride as the pioneer set, promised to be good ambassadors of their Alma mater.

 

The best graduating student in her speech said “today we celebrate not the end of the journey but the begining of the journey of what the world is waiting for and we are ready. .

 

Three students received departmental awards, nine students received Nigerian University Nursing Science Students Association (NUNSA) awards, Seven students received an award of service and the recognition of the twenty best graduating students added colour to the event.
