Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has saluted the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) following the successful conclusion of the 2025 Annual General Conference in Enugu, praising what it described as a “remarkable display of integrity and accountability” by senior lawyers involved in the event.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation showered commendations on Emeka Obegolu, SAN, Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, for his exemplary conduct, particularly his unprecedented return of more than ₦1 billion to the NBA after the conference.
Quoting the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, the statement noted:
“These virtues embody the highest ideals that Ohanaeze Ndigbo tirelessly promotes for all sons and daughters of Igbo land, and indeed all Nigerians entrusted with positions of public responsibility.”
Ohanaeze said Obegolu’s action demonstrates rare levels of transparency, honour, and responsible stewardship—attributes it described as essential to national development and professional excellence.
“We commend Obegolu immensely and encourage him to sustain this enviable standard of ethical leadership,” Dr. Chukwu added. “His example serves as a beacon for others to emulate, especially within the legal profession where integrity must remain the bedrock.”
The group also congratulated the NBA President, Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, for exhibiting sound judgment and confidence by entrusting Obegolu with the planning of the high-profile national event.
“We applaud the NBA President for delivering a successful and well-organised conference, further demonstrating vision, capacity, and deep understanding of the Bar’s national responsibilities,” Ohanaeze stated.
Highlighting his professional profile, the organisation described Obegolu as a distinguished lawyer and respected administrator, noting his past service as General Secretary of the NBA, Secretary General of the Pan African Lawyers Union, and his current role as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the African Mediators Association.
According to Ohanaeze, Obegolu has once again demonstrated unwavering commitment to excellence, public trust, and service, setting a standard that should inspire legal practitioners across Nigeria.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide celebrates him and encourages all professionals, particularly within the Bar, to follow this admirable path of integrity and honour,” the statement concluded.
