The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that four people were killed in a cult-related attack at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha-Awka Old Road, on December 7, 2025.

The attackers, believed to be members of a rival gang, arrived in a black Lexus Jeep with an unknown registration number and opened fire indiscriminately, forcing people to flee for safety.

This incident follows the arrest of two suspected cult members and the recovery of a firearm by the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, just four days prior.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, assured the public that the command is committed to eradicating cultism and violent crime in the state, and investigations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.

The community is in shock, with residents calling for increased security measures. The President General of the Nawfia Progressive Union, Chief Daniel Okoye, has condemned the attack and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
