By Dr. Ebuka Onyekwelu

Anambra State has won no fewer than four awards at the 13th meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy held between December 8 and 12, 2025, at the Crispan Suite and Event Centre in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The four awards won by Anambra are as follows: best overall performing state in ICT development, best state in ICT human capital development, Second runner-up in e-government implementation, and second runner-up in digital infrastructure development.

Just like in the past years, this year’s Council Meeting attracted digital innovators and transformers, as well as key digital players in the public and private sectors across Nigeria and beyond. Anchored on the theme, “Accelerating inclusive Digital Transformation: Bridging Gaps and Fostering Sustainable Growth Through Innovation,” the 2025 Council Meeting on communications, innovation, and digital economy offered a rare chance for industry leaders to chart a new course for digital breakthrough across the federation.

Awards at the Council Meeting were determined through States’ Innovation Peer Review, otherwise known as the Peer Review Session, which allowed participating states across the federation to showcase relevant digital footprints achieved in the year under review.

Receiving the award for Anambra State, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, credited the state’s performance to Governor Soludo’s vision for technology, expressed in his popular phrase, “everything technology, technology everywhere.” According to Mr. Agbata, “This recognition is another clear validation of Governor Soludo’s vision and a reflection of the hard work, collaboration, and commitment of the entire Solution Team. Anambra remains intentional about leveraging technology to improve lives, strengthen institutions, and create opportunities. We are grateful for this recognition and motivated to do even more,” Mr. Agbata said.

It would be recalled that at the 2023 National Council meeting in Kano, Anambra also earned four awards. However, in 2024, Anambra earned only one award. In 2025, Anambra reclaimed its position with four national recognitions in digital development. Reacting in another statement, the MD of Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, further attributed the Agency’s success to Governor Soludo’s support. “I have said it both privately and publicly, technology does not thrive without a genuine political will. What we are witnessing today is a direct outcome of Mr. Governor’s support and commitment to digital transformation,” Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata said.
