The Anambra State Police Command has clarified that the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, is not a police officer, despite her visible passion and support for policing activities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command took note of the strong interest and support expressed by the Commissioner toward the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, the Command observed that her positive disposition reflects the growing acceptance and trust of the Nigeria Police Force by Ndi Anambra. He added that such support serves as encouragement to more qualified indigenes of the state to consider careers in policing.

“The Command wishes to state clearly that the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, is not a police officer. However, she is one of the committed, police-loving citizens who, in addition to her appointment by the State Government, has chosen to contribute to national security by joining the Police Supernumerary (Spy Police) Unit,” Ikenga said.

He explained that members of the Police Supernumerary unit are not regular police officers. Although they wear police uniforms, they are not authorized to carry arms or perform full policing duties such as general patrols, criminal investigations, or public arrests. However, they may render support services when necessary.

Ikenga reiterated the Command’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships, promoting professionalism, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure safety and security across Anambra State.

He further encouraged eligible youths in the state to take advantage of ongoing and future recruitment opportunities into the Nigeria Police Force, noting that their participation remains vital to effective community policing and sustainable security.
