Prominent Nigerians, including former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and Seahorse Lubricant boss, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, converged in Amawa Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, to pay their last respects to the late Mrs Christiana Ifeyinwa Iwuchukwu, the matriarch of the Iwuchukwu family.
The deceased, a retired teacher, passed away in October last year at the age of 63.
She was the mother of Mr Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, an influencer and founder of Visage Media, a fast-growing media company in Lagos.
Delivering a sermon, Rev. Canon Peter Awaka of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ogbunike,spoke on the theme of “Dying in the Lord”, drawing inspiration from Scripture, particularly the Book of Ecclesiastes, with its timeless declaration that “there is a time for everything”.
He reflected on the creativity and vitality of life, the uncertainty that marks our earthly journey, and the certainty of death. The central question he posed, one that lingered long after, was not about death itself, but about what we choose to do in the space in between. He described the true fool as the one who lives without the consciousness of death, saying, “It is the awareness of our mortality that sharpens our sense of purpose and reminds us of the imperative to live a life worthy of remembrance.”
Condoling with the Iwuchukwu family, Mr Peter Obi, who arrived at the event even before the service began, prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and urged the bereaved to uphold the legacy of their matriarch. He said, “We pray for the repose of the soul of our dear departed mother. We urge you to be comforted by her sacrifice, generosity and her impact on the society.”
Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, CEO of Seahorse Lubricant, who attended the event with senior management officials of the company, said, ” We have one of his sons as part of us and so we are equally bereaved. But we are consoled by the kind of life she lived and her impact on the society. She lived a life of purpose and left a lasting legacy.”
Other dignitaries who attended the event included Prince Orji Okosisi, Chairman of Laser Vegetable Oil and other range of products; Mr Val Obienyem, media aide to Peter Obi; Mazi Ejimofor Okpara, APGA National Publicity Secretary; Dr Simeon Onyemaechi , MD , Anambra State Health Insurance Agency; Chief Stephen Chukwuezeora;representatives of Peace Mass Transit; Dr Chibueze Ofobuike,Chairman, Aguata LGA, Anambra State amongst other dignitaries.
