The Commission of Inquiry investigating the traditional stool of Awka has concluded its public hearing and is expected to submit its report to Governor Chukwuma Soludo before March 17, 2026.

The Chairman of the Commission, retired Justice Paul Obidigwe, announced this at the end of the second day of the public hearing held at the Amphitheatre, Light House Awka.

Obidigwe, who was flanked by other members of the commission, disclosed that the panel received a total of thirty-two memoranda, all of which were reviewed and presented during the hearing.

He explained that with the conclusion of the hearing, the commission would review all submissions and testimonies received and examine them in line with the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law and the Awka traditional law before making its recommendations.

According to him, the commission will compile its findings and submit a comprehensive report in line with its terms of reference.

During the hearing, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka, who is also a member of the commission, urged the people of Awka to maintain peace, noting that no society can progress without unity.

He reminded residents that only one individual can occupy the traditional stool at a time and thanked the people of Awka for participating in the hearing and submitting memoranda.

The President General of Awka Development Union Nigeria, Frederick Chinwuba, and a community stakeholder, Chief Jonathan Nzekwe, also appealed to residents to remain calm while the commission concludes its assignment.

They urged the panel to remain impartial and ensure that its recommendations promote lasting peace in the community.

The commission also heard from individuals and groups whose memoranda were not presented on the first day of the hearing, including the Traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Chief Benjamin Okoye, before formally closing the public hearing
