The Nigeria Police Force, Anambra State Command, has confirmed the arrest of a woman identified as Nnaemaka Nwosu, who allegedly set a policewoman and her two children ablaze in the Nnokwa community of Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State. AnambraPeople reports.

The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigations.

According to the preliminary information provided by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the policewoman had offered accommodation to the suspect while she was searching for a house. However, the two women had a disagreement that escalated into a fight, during which the suspect struck the policewoman on the head with a pestle. As a result, the policewoman became unconscious. Taking advantage of the situation, the suspect tied the policewoman and her two children together and set them ablaze. The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the mortuary.

The suspect, Nnaemaka Nwosu, a resident of Amawbia, had been a squatter in the late policewoman’s apartment. It was reported that Nwosu, who had been divorced, was in dire need of accommodation, and the policewoman had kindly offered her a place to stay. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday and was discovered when local vigilante members and villagers responded to the fire. They apprehended the suspect as she attempted to flee the scene.

Initially, Nnaemaka Nwosu claimed that a gas cylinder had exploded while the policewoman and her children were boiling hot water. However, she later confessed to the crime. The State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka will continue the investigation into this tragic incident.
