Police in Anambra State have arrested a gang of armed robbers who specialise in robbing unsuspecting tricycle operators of their tricycles AnambraPeople reports.
The gang members was arrested at Neni in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State while fleeing with a tricycle stolen from an operator in Awka.
Spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed this in a press release, made available to AnambraPeople in Awka.
Ikenga said: “Police in Neni intercepted an armed robbery gang that snatched a Tricycle from the owner in Agu-Awka on 15/7/2023 (Saturday night).
“The gang was smashed following information received from the Police in Awka that the gang was fleeing towards Anaocha LGA.”
The spokesperson, who gave account of the arrest said: “Police who were on patrol with the local vigilante laid ambush for the robbers and got them apprehended.
“One Baretta Pistol and one locally made Chief Revolver Pistol, twelve rounds of life, and one expended ammunition were recovered from the three-man gang. The Tricycle has also been recovered.”
He listed the suspects arrested to include: Ebuka Madu ‘M’, age, 22 years of Umunze, Chinedu Godwin ‘M’, age 23 years from Enugu State, and Udegbunam Chikezie ‘M’, 18 years of Neni.
Ikenga quoted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye as assuring members of the Public that the confidence reposed in the Command for the maintenance of law and order, and pursuit of justice shall not be taken for granted.
“He has directed that the suspects be arraigned in court after a diligent investigation,” he added.
