… Says Former PG, Vincent Udeobi Want To Kill Him
The President-General of Ifitedunu community Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha says he narrowly escaped death on 22nd July, 2023 as the former PG of the town one Samuel Nweke and his cronies beat him like a common criminal in the presence of officers of the Nigeria police while he managed to run for his dear life through a nearby bush in the area.
Chief Oragwuncha who recounted his ordeals in the hands of the former PG and his gang of executioners, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that the former PG Chief Samuel Nweke had sworn to make Ifitedunu ungovernable for him, since he refused to join them in their secret plots to dethrone the traditional ruler of the community when Nweke was the President-General of the town union and he was the Deputy.
The amiable gentleman who said that Chief Samuel Nweke has been a thorn in his flesh and a cog in the wheel of progress, noted that the former PG has continued to unleash terror and mayhem in Ifitedunu in conspiracy with his cohorts and cronies.
He said the former PG has created a parallel town union in the community he called Ifitedunu Board of Trustees where he became the self-imposed BOT chairman in flagrant disregard of the Constitution of Ifitedunu community.
Oragwuncha said that the former PG and his gang now break into Ifitedunu Civic Centre to hold illegal meetings against the dictates of the Constitution which authorises only the duly elected President-General of the town union to hold such meetings.
He said worst still is that the former PG and his cronies have gone ahead to install another person now parading himself as the new President-General of Ifitedunu town union and that the persona in question have laid siege of the Civic Centre and chased him away with deadly weapons even as he stated that his tenure as the President-General of Ifitedunu is still running.
Oragwuncha who called on the Anambra State Government and Security Agencies to intervene in the matter to avoid further deterioration of public peace in the area, said his life is in danger because the former PG and his partners in crime have vowed to kill him.
He said, ” I am calling for the intervention of the state government to come to our rescue because on Saturday I was beaten like a common criminal by Vincent Udeobi with his thugs. When I got information that Vincent Udeobi, Samuel Nweke and their thugs broke into Ifitedunu Civic Centre on Saturday 22nd July, 2023 destroying the keys to the halls to hold an illegal meeting. In Ifitedunu town union constitution, it is only the PG that has the constitutional powers to hold town union meeting at the Civic Centre.
When I heard the office of the President-General at the Civic Centre has been broken, I called the Commissioner of Police who advised me to go to the Divisional Police Station to make my entry and to make my statement. So the police followed me thereafter to the scene to take photographs of what happened and to take inventory too.
Meanwhile Samuel Nweke, Vincent Udeobi and some others when they had finished with their illegality called meeting, proceeded to the site of the ongoing community projects at Nkwo market and destroyed shops nearing completion. When I tried to stop them, they beat me like a common criminal in front of police men. I managed to escape, abandoning my vehicle there and managed to escape through a bush in the market. It was after the incident that police came back to recover my vehicle.
I called the CP to report the incident too. So the CP is aware of this development. As we speak now, Vincent Udeobi has led one Chukwudi Anene who is now parading himself as the President-General. He broke my office and the said Anene is now occupying the office of the President-General. “
According to Oragwuncha, ” The reason why they are fighting me with everything they have was because when I was the vice PG to Mr. Samuel Nweke, they planned everything to dethrone the traditional ruler. They started the process to unseat the traditional ruler which I told them I was not going to be part of it. When it was the turn of my village to produce the President-General, Vincent Udeobi bluntly told me that because I did not support his ally Samuel Nweke when he was the President-General; that he was not going to support me to become the President-General; that even if I eventually win, that he is going to make my government ungovernable. He told me to my face.
I have a video evidence where Vincent Udeobi is already acting as a traditional ruler and giving chieftancy titles to Indigenes of the community with every alacrity and every impunity; in a community where the traditional ruler is still alive and still on the throne. They are fighting me now because I did not support their ill intention to remove the Igwe. “
Chief Oragwuncha also revealed that he was accused of killing someone on 16th July, 2021. He said he was jailed for a crime he never committed but the court later found out that he was in Abuja the day the said crime was committed. Hence the Court granted him freedom having seen his evidence that he was not in Anambra state on the said date. That some other persons who were arrested in connection with the said fictitious murder languished in police cell for two years. That it was just about two weeks ago that with God’s intervention and in the wisdom of the Court, the Court discharged and acquitted all of them. He said Court noticed that nobody was killed on 16th July, 2021.
Chief Oragwuncha also defended allegations levelled against the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, saying that it was a blatant falsehood that the Commissioner was instigating crisis in Ifitedunu as erroneously being peddled in the online media by Samuel Nweke and his gang. According to the PG, in 2021 under the administration of Willie Obiano, he was illegally and unconstitutionally removed as the President-General and a caretaker committee was instituted. But the PG said when Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo became governor, he petitioned to the governor along side other communities who had similar issues, appealing to the governor to look into the issues for which they were illegally removed from office. That the governor in his wisdom discovered that they did not commit any wrong doing; that they did not breach the community constitution as well as the state constitution that warranted their removal; that the governor therefore reinstated him as the President-General of Ifitedunu community.
PG Oragwuncha stated that it was the decision of the governor to reinstate him as President-General of Ifitedunu community that triggered allegations levelled against the Commissioner by Samuel Nweke. That the former PG and his group accused the Local Government Commissioner of allegedly collecting a whopping sum of five million, two hundred thousand naira from him to enable him to return him as the President-General of Ifitedunu community. That he sees no reason Samuel Nweke should constantly accuse the Commissioner for Local Government falsely for doing his job and enthroning peace in communities. He therefore reiterated his call on the state government to intervene to get the culprits arrested and prosecute them. He however thanked Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for the construction of 2.16 kilometers of roads in Ifitedunu community, describing it as a major road that will link Ifitedunu to other communities in the state.
Meanwhile, the former PG Sam Nweke had in an online news report stated categorically that Chief Oragwuncha is no longer the President-General of Ifitedunu community because he was impeached, following an incident that occurred in the community in 2021 where Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha allegedly sent his thugs to cause mayhem leading to loss of lives in the community.
