Anambra State Government Returns Lasting Peace in Osumenyi Community

This was the outcome of the reconciliatory meeting the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs had with the stakeholders and the factions to the communal conflict which had lasted for 17 years.

While addressing the stakeholders during the meeting which took place in his office, Mr Commissioner, Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne extols the need for the stakeholders and all the inhabitants of the community to shun any form of unhealthy disagreement and instead give peaceful coexistence a chance in the community.

He equally assured them that with their cooperation government will resolve all their aggressiveness amicably as the leadership of Prof. Charles Soludo is keen on seeing all the communities in the state at peace.
After much deliberation, the factions and the stakeholders agreed to work together in the interest of peace and the progress of the community. This was followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding(MOU) between the factions in the presence of Mr Commissioner and the T.C. chairman of Nnewi South L.G. The two factions which before the meeting are The Osumenyi Town Assembly(OTA) and The Osumenyi Development Union (ODU) agreed on the following:

1.To adopt the Name: Osumenyi Community as the one, only and official name of the union, uniting all indigenes of Osumenyi and by which the community shall be recognized by the government and general community and under which the community shall work, perform and execute all activities, business and functions.

2.To Prepare for and adopt Friday January 5th 2024 as a date for election into a newly elected executives of the community

3.To Use the OTA Constitution for the proposed election and for the swearing-in of the elected executives of the the community.

The OTA Constitution will be used for this purpose ,as stated above and for the purpose of initiating a review of the constitution immediately after the swearing-in the community executives.

4.The First mandate and primary assignment of newly elected executives shall be to review the constitution of Osumenyi Community.
The review of the community shall involve the entire Osumenyi Community or their representatives as may determined by people.

  1. To withdraw all existing ceases from the court
  2. To work together to ensure that the provisions of the MOU are observed and carried out in good conscience to effectively and conscientiously work for the unity, peace and progress of the Osumenyi Community
