Justice Pete Obiora, a native of Nkpor in Anambra State, has been promoted to the Court of Appeal. He is the administrative Judge of the Idemili Judicial Division and was appointed judge by former Governor Chris Ngige in 2002. Justice Obiora is highly respected for his outstanding judgments in various areas of law, particularly in election petitions.

He received his education at the prestigious Dennis Memorial Grammar School in Onitsha. On Wednesday, September 20th, he will be sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Abuja by the Chief Justice of Nigeria. This appointment is significant as it represents the South East region.

Many lawyers in Anambra State have praised Justice Obiora for his intelligence, integrity, and resourcefulness, stating that his promotion is well deserved. He joins the ranks of other judges from Anambra State elevated to Court of Appeal in their time such as the late Hon Justice Godwin Ubaezuonu and Hon Justice Chinwe Iyizoba.

Some of Justice Obiora’s notable judgments include sentencing Ejike Nwankwo Ohagba to death by hanging for the murder of his mother. He also declared Governor Adeleke of Osun State as the winner of the 2018 Governorship election, although this decision was later overturned by the appeal and supreme courts in favor of Oyetola. Additionally, he recently restrained the traditional ruler of Alor community in Idemili South Local Government Area, Igwe Mac Okonkwo, from acting as the community’s traditional ruler, and reinstated Chief Sir Joseph Ilonze as the duly elected President of People’s Club of Nigeria International.
