We Take Concoctions As Palm Wine- Ezeonwuka

Founder and Promoter of Rojenny Tourist village,Oba, Anambra State, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has raised concerns about the authenticity of palm wine being consumed in Igbo land today. Ezeonwuka stated in a post he made recently online that most palm wine being sold and consumed are actually concoctions and not the original palm wine from the villages they are claimed to come from.

According to Ezeonwuka, the original palm wine can only be harvested from the top of a palm tree and cannot produce more than one bottle of palm wine overnight, and the wine may become sour after a few hours. However, according to him, the palm wine being sold and consumed today can test sugary even after 24 hours.

Ezeonwuka speaks from his personal experience, having over a thousand palm trees in Anaku AYAMELUM and assigning tappers to harvest the palm wine, but they failed to deliver as expected.

Sharing his findings, Ezeonwuka said:

“Biko umunnem, an elder must always talk what he sees as truth so that the ancestors will guide him. May I inform our people that most palm wine we consume during festivities in Igbo land today are concoction The surpliers of the palm wine will convince you that the wine is original palm wine from, Udi, Nsukka, Oba, Awgbu etc. But check those towns you will not see palm wine taper harvesting hundreds of gallons from tops of any palm-tree where a tree cannot produce more than one bottle of original palm wine overnight and the very palm wine if brought out can test it’s sweetness within an hour or two there after the tests become sour. But what you buy and drink as palm wine today tests sugary 24 hours. I have over a thousand palm trees in Anaku AYAMELUM and at one time assigned 10 tappers to harvest palm wine from 100 palm-trees to the surprise shock and surprise of everyone they failed to deliver even 20 gallons of palm wine from 100 palm trees. Umunnem, I submits this information based from experience which is verifireble. Ogilisi“
