Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji, stands poised to be crowned the Best Secondary School of the Year at the prestigious 2023 Anambra Man of the Year Awards. This recognition comes as a fitting culmination of a remarkable year marked by unprecedented academic, athletic, and artistic achievements by its talented students.

From dominating regional science competitions like AVOSCO to bagging gold at the National Math Contest and Inter-Switch Spak, Mater Amabilis has etched its name amongst the academic elite of Nigeria. Their prowess extends beyond classrooms, with the school basketball team reigning as State Champions in the Milo Basketball Championship and claiming gold at the Anambra State Schools Sports Festival.

Mater Amabilis has also nurtured budding entrepreneurs, securing the coveted 1st position at the 2023 SAGE National Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards with their innovative ideas. Notably, their students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit in 2022, clinching the 2nd position at the same competition and participating in the Dubai EduTour.

The school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals shines through in the artistic and public speaking arena. Mater Amabilis students not only graced the silver screen in “The Little Scar,” the first-ever movie by secondary school students in Anambra, but also claimed the 1st Runner-Up position at the Teen Speak Up Challenge and emerged victorious in the Lilian Ike Foundation Choral Contest.

The list of accolades goes on, showcasing the dedication and talent nurtured within the walls of Mater Amabilis. This consistent track record of excellence makes their nomination for the Best Secondary School of the Year at the Anambra Man of the Year Awards no surprise. As the school prepares to receive this prestigious recognition, one thing is clear: Mater Amabilis Secondary School is shaping the future of Anambra, one student at a time.
