Two women were crushed to death Tuesday morning while two others sustained varying degrees of injury in a ghastly motor accident in Obenetiti Awkuzu, along Onitsha-Awka expressway, Anambra State
The crash which occurred around 5.20am involved two vehicles, a commercial Mack tanker and a commercial Toyota Diana.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Uzoma Olise said the Mack tanker crashed into the Diana truck following brake failure.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi blamed the crash on brake failure.
He sympathized with the family of the dead victims and wished the injured quick recovery.
He seriously warned motorist to desist from disobeying traffic rules and regulations and ensure they service their vehicles regularly.
He said, “Two unidentified drivers of a commercial Mack tanker with with registration number AAA877XR and a driver of a commercial Toyota Diana with registration number: AGL627XC were involved in a fatal road traffic crash at Obenetiti Awkuzu by Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway today 11th June, 2024 at 05:20hrs.
“Three male adults and four female adults were involved in the crash. Two female adults were killed, two female adults and three male adults were injured, while
one female adult was rescued unhurt.
“The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Anambra State rushed the victim to Chira Hospital, Akwuzu where two female adults were confirmed dead and their corpse deposited at the mortuary.
“The team are still on ground ensuring obstruction caused by the crash is cleared.”
